Advertising on Facebook

202px-Facebook.svgImagine the insurance industry utilising Facebook as a method of niche marketing. But unfortunately none in existing times! Are we missing out on a great opportunity to reach out to hundreds of millions of active users. 😮 Something for the agency fraternity to reconsider moving forward.

Today, Facebook has become one of the most popular online social networking websites, making it a veritable untapped network for traffic and business. People spend a great amount of time online on the Facebook website looking to make new friends, interact with people, play games and interact within interest groups. When you make it possible for your advertising message to travel to these people through Facebook, you will absolutely see a spike in the amount of website traffic that you attract, and you will also see more members, more subscriptions, more sales and more inquiries as well.

One of the biggest questions that people ask is how it could be possible for a business to leverage Facebook for the purpose of marketing any insurance product or a service. Here are three of the possible ways for you to advertise your business, product or service through Facebook social networking.

1 – Social Ads on Facebook –

This is one of the most straight forward ways that you can promote yourself on Facebook. You can use social ads to target people based on a number of different functions including age group, gender and interest for example. By targeting your ads in this manner, you can increase your CTR, which is your click through rate. This will give you more visitors to your site and also an increase in the number of customers that you are able to attract. Make sure to throw a picture up in your ads because ads with images capture more attention and tend to attract more clicks as well.

2 – Groups and Pages on Facebook –

You can create groups and pages for your business, company or website on Facebook, and then you can get people to become a fan of your page or to join your group. Use the invite function for groups to get all of your friends to join, or tell your friends about your page so that they can become a fan. Both pages and groups are two excellent channels that you can use to gather more potential customers as well as to build more brand awareness on Facebook.

3 – Facebook Word of Mouth –

Selling to a friend is always going to be easier than selling the same thing to a stranger. You should try to get to know more friends simply because there are so many active users on the Facebook site. Join groups with some kind of relation to your product or your business and socialize with the members of those groups to make new friends and acquaintances. When people get to know your business and begin to really trust it, they will be much more likely to buy from you.

Just like this….. see our two beautiful ladies in the Intel® CoreTM i5 (Malaysia)’s viral marketing programme:

intelcore i5

Hi, remember to click me once you are inside the intel's facebook site, hoh!

What to do…. making a living lah! SOooo… they said! But please don’t forget to click on their image hoh? The gift to be won is an i5 based desktop…..

Now that’s what I called Advertising on Facebook to gain an unfair advantage!

You see? That’s what marketing is all about in today’s world! You have better get use to it otherwise you may be left behind!

Then, why not also try this…. POTONG SAGA, my favourite!

Currently is there any Guidelines by the local regulators in Malaysia (i.e. LIAM/PIAM/BNM) regulating the advertising by Insurance Companies on Facebook?

None… but why should there be! As far as the ads are done in an ethical manner, these ads on social media platforms should be treated in similar manner applicable for the usual ads…. Also good to know that ads on facebook and blogsites are definitely much cheaper and value-for-money than those done on the conventional ads platform.

Google has openly admitted that Facebook is their ONE competitor that even comes close to challenging them. Facebook will soon be the leader of targeted marketing, rather than Google advertisement. It’s definitely worth looking into how to utilise Facebook for the insurance industry. I only wonder if they have rulings that prevent agents from offering their service.

In facebook, advertisements show up according to the profile of the surfer, so ads look fresh, attractive, curiosity creating and “something-different” – thus it is likely that the facebooker will click on it. To the advertisers, they just pay according to appearance per day and they can adjust the ads according to their budget and at the same time able to monitor the click through…. On the other hand, google ads, whether adsense or adwords, it is on pay-per-click, thus the users (whether blogger or site owner) would place them all over their sites in order to gain the sight of the surfer. But the person who surf has seen those ads one to many… they would navigate to avoid the ads, of course and unless they gave a friendly click to the blog owner for whatever reason… but this would not be too helpful for the person who advertise, right? So in the longer term, facebook may have a better operating concept compared to google.

You can set up a fan club or group in facebook using their group templates or if you are good with php, java, asp or html language, then you can create “application-driven” games, group or whatever, even ads….so to speak. You see these applications in the games you play in facebook. They are developed to fish for information the moment you allow them access.

So if you want to use facebook to market your agency products and services, learn the facebook applications – you be surprised how powerful the facebook can be.
